Is fly fishing really as hard as it looks?
Fly fishing is technically and physically demanding compared to other types of fishing. Once you learn the basics its just a matter of practice, practice, practice.
“If I had known what I know now I would of taken up fly fishing years ago. There is nothing quite the same as playing a fish on the fly. Everyone should try it at least once”
What puts people off fly fishing? is it the price? Is it the flies? Is it the "Old Boys Club" image fly fishing has? Is it the technicality of the equipment and casting technique?
Its as easy as you want it to be
I am a relative newcomer to fly fishing #Flyfishing I put of trying it for years. I beach cast, spin in both saltwater and freshwater, I coarse fish, pole fish, troll, float, ledger in fact I think I fish almost every type of fishing except fly fishing for all the reasons above, until recently that is. I visited an Orvis shop #Orvis a few years ago and they were offering a FREE yes FREE fly casting lesson and with it got vouchers for a fly rod kit and further lessons and guided sessions on a local reservoir . After my lessons and catching my first ever trout on a fly #Troutfishing I was pleasantly surprised to find it was reasonably priced, no more expensive than any other type of fishing, open to anyone from any back ground and quite easy to understand the matching of the hatching. I had never realised just how much skill was needed to hook, play and land a fish on the fly, it was exhilarating.
From that moment on I was hooked (pardon the pun)
Visit Orvis or a trout fishery and have a go
what have you got to loose...........
